After praying and asking the Lord to open your eyes to the truth of His word, pick a book of the bible to read. The S in SOAP stands for Scripture. Scripture: write out one verse that was meaningful to you. Write the book name, chapter and verse down. The O in SOAP stands for Observation. Read one chapter slowly and meditatively. Ask the Lord to speak to you, your life and your current situation. After you have fully observed your reading, do a bit of observation on these things and write them down. Observation: What was interesting in this passage? What did you learn? What was God saying to you? What is the historical significance in my bible reading? Who was this chapter written to? Who was speaking to whom? What event is taking place? What is the main theme of this chapter? Is a particular person/group of people being addressed? Context is key in studying the Bible! The A in SOAP stands for Application. How can you apply the truth of what you have just read to your life? ***Keep the Context in mind*** Application: How can you apply this Scripture to your life? How will you let it change you? The P in SOAP stands for Prayer. It’s one thing to know what the word of the Lord said but it’s another to live and apply it. Prayer: Respond to God in prayer, use the Scripture as a guide. Ask God to help you meditate and apply the Scripture to your life. S = Scripture O = Observation A = Application P = Prayer |

Prayer & fastingThursday, May 7 is the National Day of Prayer for our country. Thousands of people and churches around the nation will be praying and fasting together. “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”Matthew 6:16-18 |
